He reveals, in strict confidence, that \u003cstrong data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"876\"\u003eColonel Curto\u003c\/strong\u003e has already proposed him for a captaincy in the 8th Chasseurs à cheval, adding that the matter must remain secret should the appointment fail. Out of discretion, he therefore declines Sainte-Suzanne’s offer for the moment, noting also the likely influence of \u003cstrong data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1155\"\u003eColonel Lacroix\u003c\/strong\u003e with the Viceroy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1515\"\u003eGrouchy nonetheless asks to be alerted \u003cstrong data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1229\"\u003eimmediately\u003c\/strong\u003e if another captain’s post should fall vacant in the 9th Chasseurs, insisting on his desire to see his son serving under Sainte-Suzanne.
