First published in 1848, La Dame aux Camélias is one of the founding texts of the modern sentimental novel and remains the most celebrated work of Alexandre Dumas fils. Inspired by his relationship with Marie Duplessis, the story of Marguerite Gautier at once established itself as a literary myth before enjoying an exceptional career on stage and in opera, notably with Verdi's La Traviata.
From the library of the Baron de Launoit; his bookplate.
