In-4 (255 x 170 mm): [2] ff., 170 pp., drawing suite, [6] ff. Green half-morocco with long grains, ribbed spine stamped with the collector's number at the top and date in gilt at the bottom, title and author in gilt (Petitot).

 

Original edition.

A fine copy of the original edition, printed in 200 copies. It includes a photo of Prosper Mérimée as a frontispiece, 9 illustrations (views, portraits, facsimile letters) and 14 drawings by Mérimée, including 1 in color.

Our copy is complete with the notice to the binder and the substituted leaves. The interior is fresh and wide-margined.

Upper corner of the first cover dulled, slight wear to the upper joint of the first cover, minimal foxing at the start of the work and on the gutter.

Provenance: Maurice Tourneux Library (1849-1917) with his number on the back.
