Frequently Asked Questions
Ordering, selling, requesting a valuation, making an appointment: answers to the questions we are asked most often. Can't find yours? Write to us — we reply within 24 to 48 hours.
Ordering & Payment
How can I order an item?
Directly online, via the shopping cart — or by writing to us if you would prefer to discuss before purchasing, or if you wish to opt for another method of payment.
What payment methods do you accept?
Credit cards and the other secure payment methods offered, as well as bank transfer — select "bank transfer" at checkout: the item is then reserved for you for the duration of the transaction. You may also pay by cheque if you collect your item directly in person, and by cash, up to a limit of €1,000 if you are a European resident.
Sale
How can I sell my books, manuscripts or autographs?
Describe your item using the form on the Sell page, with supporting photographs — an initial response within five business days, followed by an in-person assessment and a firm offer.
Do you purchase entire libraries?
Yes — libraries, established collections and estates. Travel arrangements are organised and covered by the bookshop, never by the seller.
Reservation
Can I reserve an item?
Yes: the “Reserve this item” button on the listing holds the item for you for seven days, with no immediate payment required. A customer account — a simple email address — is required.
How long does a reservation last?
Seven days. Without confirmation by the end of this period, the item returns to the catalogue. One reservation per client per month.
Shipping
How are items shipped?
Careful packaging, tailored to the fragility of each item; tracked and insured shipping.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Shipping costs and delivery times depend on the destination and are specified at checkout.
Valuation
Is the appraisal free of charge?
Yes — free of charge and with no obligation to sell. Use the form on the Expertises & estimations page.
What do you need to provide for a valuation?
A few photographs (binding, spine, title page, any defects) along with whatever you know about the piece: author, title, date. We will reply within five working days.
Expertise
What is the difference between an estimate and a formal appraisal?
An appraisal is an opinion of value based on photographs; an expert assessment is a full examination carried out with the item in hand — identification of the edition, collation, condition, provenance.
Is there a charge for an appraisal?
Simple estimates and full appraisals are free of charge. Bespoke services (inventories, libraries, estate matters) can be arranged upon request.
Authenticity & Certificates
Are your pieces guaranteed authentic?
Yes: every piece sold by the bookshop is guaranteed authentic. The bookshop is a member of the SLAM and the LILA.
Do you provide a certificate?
Every purchase is accompanied by a detailed invoice precisely describing the item, which serves as a certificate of authenticity.
Returns
Can I return an item?
Yes, you have fourteen days. Please write to us before returning any item: we will agree together on the packing and shipping arrangements.
How does the refund process work?
He works on the piece as soon as it is received, in its original condition.
Appointments
Can we view items before purchase?
Yes, by appointment at the bookshop, in Paris 10th arrondissement — the exact address is provided when the appointment is booked.
How do I make an appointment?
By phone, by email, or via the Contact page — Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Assistance
Do you help build a collection?
Yes. We advise collectors — beginners and seasoned bibliophiles alike — and search on your behalf for the pieces you are missing: entrust us with your desiderata.
How should I send you my research?
From your customer account (Wish List section), or simply by writing to us.
Partnership
Do you work with institutions?
Yes — libraries, museums, foundations and auction houses. Please write to us with any proposal for collaboration.
Do you take part in book fairs?
Yes, the bookshop has been exhibiting in France and abroad since 2026 — our upcoming events are announced in the news section of the website.
