Mathematics

In the antiquarian book trade, mathematics is encountered in the form of treatises on algebra or geometry, calculation tables, academic memoirs, or correspondence between scholars in which demonstrations and methods are discussed. Born of the need to count, to measure, and to understand space, mathematics passed from the Greeks to the Arab and European worlds, before undergoing decisive advances from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment.

The bibliophilic interest here lies in the rarity of the edition, the precision of the engraved figures, and, at times, in annotations that bear witness to a scholarly reading. The collector rediscovers in these works the long quest for abstraction and demonstration that has shaped our understanding of reality.
