Travel

Travel holds a place of choice in the antiquarian book trade: explorers' accounts, ships' logs, correspondence sent from distant lands, works illustrated with maps or engravings brought back from expeditions. These are often first-hand texts, written in close proximity to the events they describe, bearing the trace of a world observed before it was described elsewhere.

The bibliophile interest then lies in the rarity of the printing, the quality of the plates, and the provenance of the copy — sometimes annotated or corrected by its author. The collector rediscovers here that curiosity peculiar to the human spirit: the one that drives us to set out, to observe, and then to tell the tale.
