EINSTEIN, Albert. Comment je vois le monde.
Paris: Ernest Flammarion, 1934.
Duodecimo (194 x 176 mm). (1) f., VI-258 pp., (2) ff.
Sewn, untrimmed.
First edition of the French translation, exceedingly rare as a deluxe issue: the copy of Jacques Lacan (1901–1981).
One of the out-of-commerce, unnumbered copies on laid Holland paper.
Published in the immediate aftermath of Hitler's rise to power and of Einstein's definitive exile from Germany, Comment je vois le monde is the physicist's great intellectual and moral self-portrait. Our volume thus brings together a highly symbolic pairing: that of the physicist who overturned the physical conception of the universe and the no less celebrated psychoanalyst who revolutionised his own discipline by reinterpreting Freudian concepts while introducing elements of linguistics.
THE COPY OF JACQUES LACAN, from his sale at Audap & Associés, no. 199, 19 October 2021.
