One of 50 copies on Japon impérial, this being no. 31, for the second volume of Pagnol’s celebrated Marseilles Trilogy.

The play was adapted for the cinema the same year by Marc Allégret, with an exceptional cast including Raimu (César), Pierre Fresnay (Marius), Orane Demazis (Fanny) and Fernand Charpin (Panisse). The success of the film contributed significantly to the mythmaking of Pagnol’s Marseille and to the enduring popularity of the trilogy.
