DABIT, Eugène. Hôtel du Nord.
Paris, Robert Denoël, 1929.
In-8 (190 x 128 mm), 244 pp, (2) ff, covers and spine preserved.
Red half-maroquin with corners, double gilt fillet separating the pages, gold-stamped author and title, gilt date at the end of the spine, gilt head.
First edition on large paper.
Copy printed on Alfa paper, the only large paper after 25 on Madagascar.
The novel would enjoy an unexpected posterity thanks to Marcel Carné's very free adaptation of it in 1938, starring Arletty and Louis Jouvet - etching in the collective memory an atmosphere of poetic realism to which Dabit's work remains intimately linked.
A few scattered light spotting, otherwise a very good copy.
