Blue cloth in the Bradel manner, smooth spine, red morocco lettering-piece with author, title and a gilt fleuron (modern binding).

First edition, extra-illustrated with an autograph letter by Verlaine in which Invectives is mentioned.
The letter is underlined in two places by Vanier:

Mon cher Vanier,
Alité, mais sain d'esprit, je travaille aux premières pièces d'Invectives. Demain après-midi ayez bien une centaine de vers contre, j'espère, une somme de plusieurs thunes. En attendant Mademoiselle Krantz qui est digne de toute confiance, que j'aime beaucoup, qui m'empêche de faire des sotties et qui prend soin de moi et de mes affaires d'une façon admirable, veut bien se charger d'aller quérir de vous cent sous qui sont indispensables.
