Marie-Caroline, duchesse de Berry (1798-1870), Autograph letter signed, Venice, December 24, 1845, addressed to François-René de Chateaubriand.

1 page In-8. A very fine letter to her "cher Vicomte," thanking him for his last letter and his congratulations on the marriage of her daughter Louise.

The page is adorned with a lithographed vignette depicting the Palazzo Vendramin Calergi, which the Duchess of Berry and her second husband, Hector Lucchesi-Palli, purchased in 1844.
Louise d'Artois married the future Charles III of Parma a month before the letter was written, on November 10, 1845.
The Duchess also mentions Chateaubriand’s and his wife Céleste’s plans to settle in Venice—a project that ultimately did not materialize. This touching passage is significant, as 1845 marked the last time Chateaubriand would visit the city of the man he called his “Roi” (King): Lord Byron.

Marie Caroline”
