PICASSO, Pablo (1881-1973). Autograph letter signed ("Picasso"), Cannes - Villa “La Californie”, 24 December 1959, to Max Pellequer. Framed.
1 page, quarto, written in blue, green, and red wax pencil, with an addition in blue ink.
A striking and highly graphic letter, written in bold coloured wax pencil with a short ink addition, to his friend Max Pellequer, touching on personal financial difficulties.
Picasso had left Vallauris in 1955 and settled in his celebrated villa “La Californie” in Cannes with Jacqueline Roque, whom he would marry in 1961. He lived there until 1965, producing some of his most vibrant late work.
“My dear Max, here is the cheque (for the U.R.S.S.A.F. des Bouches-du-Rhône)…
I am very glad that Madame Pellequer is doing better. Jacqueline and I send you our very best wishes.
Yours,
Picasso”
From the collection of Max Pellequer, thence private collection.
