Olive half-morocco with corners, spine with raised bands richly decorated, author, title and date gilt, top edge gilt (Champs-Stroobants).
First edition, limited deluxe edition.
One of 50 deluxe copies on China paper, ours numbered 18, containing a separate suite of all the plates.
The illustrations are by Julien Le Blant (1851-1936), “the painter of the Chouans”, gold medallist at the 1889 Exposition Universelle for his Bataillon carré and the favoured illustrator of La Vendée militaire (Balzac's Les Chouans, Barbey's Le Chevalier des Touches).
Spine slightly sunned and scattered foxing, otherwise a fine copy.
