Illustrated edition by Gavarni. The work is illustrated with 83 plates, including the folding map in volume III-IV of the cholera, and numerous in-text illustrations. An inscription on the paper in volume I-II mentions that the work comes from the Belgian art gallery Giroux during a sale in November 1936 - lot 118.
Some foxing and rubbing on the boards, with a small tear noted on the lower edge of the rear board of volume III-IV.
