NOLHAC, Pierre de (1859–1936), Autograph Letter Signed, Paris, Musée Jacquemart-André, 15 May 1936, to Émile Mâle.

1 page in-12 (135 × 105 mm).

A warm and collegial letter from Pierre de Nolhac, distinguished historian and member of the Académie française, addressed to his confrère Émile Mâle, then Director of the Académie.

Nolhac writes to recommend Madame Leune to Mâle, explaining that she will spend several days in Rome to gather documentation in preparation for a series of lectures she is scheduled to give in America. He notes that Mgr Bourdillat and René Doumic—the latter Secretary Perpetual of the Académie française and Director of the Revue des Deux Mondes—could equally well have presented her, given her devoted engagement with the Franco-Italian rapprochement, which Nolhac observes is “in such a good way today”.

He closes by mentioning that he is leaving home to vote in the scrutin du 24, after “four months of salary and…,” the end of the sentence trailing off in an unfinished remark.
