UCHARD Mario. Mon oncle Barbassou.
Paris, J. Lemonnyer, 1884.
In-4 (252 x 175 mm): [2] ff., 311 pp. Covers preserved. Half blue morocco with corners, separated by a gilt fillet, spine with raised bands and dotted roll tooling, roll tooling at head and tail of spine, compartments richly decorated, gilt author, title, and date, gilt top edge (David).
First illustrated edition.
Very fine copy, printed on Japan paper with a suite of Paul Avril's etchings printed separately, featuring the artist's name in drypoint. Our copy is number 163, the second large paper edition.
The work is exceptionally enriched with three proofs of the etching of Mario Uchard's portrait by Paul Avril: before lettering, pure etching (signed in pencil in addition to the drypoint signature), and carmine (printed in 25 proofs, annotated at the bottom of the page "a bit too much carmine, printed in 25 proofs").
Minimal rubbing on the joint of the front board and its lower corner, light foxing on the preserved title cover. Otherwise, a very fine and well-preserved copy.
