A very rare first edition.
One of the artist's first albums, ‘very rare, much sought-after and highly prized for its beautiful original lithographs’ (Carteret). Twenty lithographs illustrate this work, including one on the cover.

"Bonnard worked on the designs while he was visiting Terrasse and his sister in the little town of Arcachon. His sister’s family and the town became the models for many of the images. The lithographs, painted with brush and ink, were influenced by Japanese art." (Toledo Museum of Art).

Traduction : “Bonnard a travaillé sur les dessins pendant qu'il rendait visite à Terrasse et à sa sœur dans la petite ville d'Arcachon. La famille de sa sœur et la ville sont devenues les modèles de nombreuses images. Les lithographies, peintes au pinceau et à l'encre, sont influencées par l'art japonais.“

Bonnard had already worked with Terrasse, his brother-in-law, on another book introducing children to music (Petit solfège illustré, published in 1890).
