First edition, first printing. Published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, Roadwork has become one of the key titles of the Bachman corpus. King initially hesitated to release the novel, believing it to be a minor work; he later chose to publish it unchanged in order to offer readers a candid glimpse of his state of mind during its composition. In the preface to the second edition, he famously reversed his judgment, calling it his favourite among his early novels.
