The last of the Bachman novels to appear before King’s pseudonym was exposed. Thinner became a publishing phenomenon after bookseller Stephen Brown uncovered Bachman’s true identity and publicly revealed that Stephen King was the author. By then the book had already sold modestly; after the revelation, it surpassed three million copies sold. Prior to this, King reportedly received letters accusing “Bachman” of shamelessly imitating Stephen King’s style.
