Philosophy

Philosophy holds a place of the first importance in the antiquarian book trade: first editions of the great systems of thought, the translations and commentaries that ensured their diffusion, correspondence in which arguments were exchanged even before taking the form of a book, and manuscripts of lectures or treatises that sometimes remained unpublished. The bibliophilic interest here lies in the rarity of first editions, the quality of the established text and, often, in annotations or inscriptions that bear witness to a learned reading.

What the collector seeks here is less an object than a trace: that of a thought formed, debated and transmitted, which continues to illuminate our relationship to the world.
