NECKER Jacques. De l'Administration des finances de la France.
[Paris, Panckoucke], 1784.

In-8 (195 x 130 mm): T1 - CLIX-354 pp; T2 - 536 pp; T3 - 468 pp. Full dark brown basane, double cold fillet on covers, decorated ribbed spine, decorated compartments with double gilt fillet, fleurons at corners and central gilt rose, red title page, green endpaper, decorated edges, red borders (contemporary binding).

First edition.
The work was a great success both in France and abroad, and begins with a long introduction by Necker on the state of France's finances; ‘in a short time 80,000 copies were sold’ (Coquelin and Guillaumin), which resulted in several printings of the first edition. The first four editions contain an errata and the following editions have the errors corrected (K.E. Carpenter).

Our copy belongs to the third edition cited by Carpenter, corresponding to the same collation with an errata in each volume: 11 errors in volume 1, six in volume 2, six in volume 3. It should be noted, however, that the collation specified by Carpenter in volume 3 indicates that the table of chapters is normally bound in at the beginning of the volume, ours being bound in before the general table of chapters at the end of the work.

Small worm gallery from the first leaf to leaf LXVI of volume 1, pages slightly browned on the volumes, corners slightly rubbed on volumes 1 and 3.
Ex-dono on title page of each volume ‘A Grimaud Avocat à Narbonne’ with handwritten note in volume 1 page 306-307.

Coquelin et Guillaumin, Dictionnaire de l'économie politique, II, p. 272, 1854 ; K.E. Carpenter, Economic Bestsellers before 1850, XXIX/3.
