SILVESTRE (Armand) and MORAND (Eugène). Grisélidis. Mystère. En trois actes, un prologue et un épilogue en vers libres.
Paris: Ernest Kolb, 1891.
8vo (233 × 162 mm). (2) ff., VII, 99 pp., (6) ff. Full aubergine morocco, triple gilt fillet border, spine with raised bands richly gilt in double-panelled compartments with cornerpieces and central fleur-de-lys tool, gilt lettering, double gilt fillet to board edges, gilt edges, gilt turn-ins; original wrappers and backstrip preserved. Binding by Chambolle-Duru.
First edition, with a presentation inscription from both authors.
The dedication is addressed to Georges Hippolyte Mondain, known as Monval (1845–1910), actor, archivist of the Comédie-Française, and noted for his rediscovery of Diderot’s autograph manuscript of Le Neveu de Rameau. The association is particularly appealing given the play’s premiere at the Comédie-Française on 15 May 1891.
Bound at the end are five admission tickets for the general rehearsal of 14 May 1891 and three tickets for the first performance of 15 May, forming a valuable theatrical dossier.
A superb copy, with discreet and skilful colour retouching to the headcaps.
