The copy includes an etched frontispiece and recounts the escape of Jean Albert d'Archambaud (1650-1740), Comte de Bucquoy, from the prisons of the Bastille and For-l'Évêque (originally the prison reserved for bishops in Paris).

The Comte de Bucquoy would later recount his story in Histoire de mon évasion in 1719, and Gérard de Nerval likewise sought to write about it in Les Faux Saulniers.
