CUREL (François de). L’amour brode.
Paris: Tresse & Stock, 1893.
8vo (240 × 160 mm). 102 pp., (1) f. Full chocolate morocco, triple gilt fillet border, spine with raised bands richly gilt in double-panelled compartments with cornerpieces and a central flowering-vase tool, gilt lettering, double gilt fillet to board edges, gilt edges, gilt turn-ins. Binding by Chambolle-Duru.
First edition, with a presentation inscription from the author.
The inscription is addressed to Georges Hippolyte Mondain, known as Monval (1845–1910), actor and archivist of the Comédie-Française, celebrated for his rediscovery of Diderot’s autograph manuscript of Le Neveu de Rameau. The association is particularly apt given that L’amour brode premiered at the Comédie-Française on 12 October 1893.
A superb copy, finely bound and beautifully preserved.
