American literature

American literature is encountered in the antiquarian book trade in the form of first editions, sometimes in French translation, of writers' correspondence or autograph inscriptions bearing witness to the exchanges between the two shores of the Atlantic. Here the collector seeks as much the rarity of the printing as the trace of a voice that, over the course of a century and a half, succeeded in imposing a tone and a new literature upon the entire world.
